Facebook QR codes

A Facebook QR code holds the link to their Facebook profile: facebook.com/ followed by their username, for example facebook.com/olena.k. Some profiles have no username, and the link holds a number instead (facebook.com/profile.php?id= and the number). met.cards removes tracking text from the end of the link.

The code doesn’t hold their name, email or phone number. So it’s a profile link code, and you type the name.

On an iPhone or an Android phone:

  1. Open Facebook and go to their profile.
  2. Tap the menu (⋯), then QR code or Share profile.

Apps move these screens between versions. If the steps don’t match their app, look for a QR code icon on their profile or in their settings. Scan it from Capture in QR mode.

Last checked: not yet on a phone. These steps follow the app’s own help and may differ in their version.

met.cards shows the Facebook icon and their handle, and asks for a name: “Facebook codes share a profile, not a name. Add their name so you can find them later.” Save works once you’ve typed one.

  • Their Facebook profile, under Profiles on their page, with Open in Facebook.
  • The name you type. Add their company, title or email later with Edit.

For a link with a number instead of a username, the number is shown as their handle.

met.cards never looks people up on Facebook, and no setting changes that. Type their name; it’s on the profile they’re showing you.

  • They change their username later. The saved link then stops opening them. Change it on their page. See Profiles.
  • met.cards shows Facebook contact. Their code held a facebook.com/share/ link, which only Facebook can open. Select Type their name or Photograph their screen.
  • Nothing happens. Ask them to turn their screen brightness up, and tilt your phone so their screen doesn’t reflect the lights. Or take a photo of the code and pick it with the gallery button in QR mode.
  • You already have them. As you type their name, met.cards suggests people you already have whose name matches what you typed, under Already in your connections? Select Add to on the right person, for example Add to Olena Koval, to add this Facebook profile to them instead of saving someone new. See When you already have them.
