X QR codes

An X profile link is x.com/ followed by their handle, for example x.com/olena_k. Older links use twitter.com, and met.cards saves them as x.com. Tracking text at the end of the link is removed.

The link doesn’t hold their name, email or phone number. So it’s a profile link, and you type the name.

A short link that starts with t.co is different: only X can tell whose it is, so met.cards saves it as a link only.

On an iPhone or an Android phone, X may not show a QR code for a profile. Ask them to share their profile link instead, and use Paste a link.

Apps move these screens between versions. If the steps don’t match their app, look for a QR code icon on their profile or in their settings. If they show a code, scan it from Capture in QR mode.

Last checked: not yet on a phone. These steps follow the app’s own help and may differ in their version.

met.cards shows the X icon and their handle, and asks for a name: “X codes share a profile, not a name. Add their name so you can find them later.” Save works once you’ve typed one.

  • Their X profile, under Profiles on their page, with Open in X.
  • The name you type. Add their company, title or email later with Edit.

For a t.co short link, met.cards shows X contact instead, with Type their name and Photograph their screen. The link is saved without a handle, and its Profiles row has the info icon of a link-only code.

met.cards never looks people up on X, and no setting changes that. Type their name; it’s on the profile they’re showing you.

  • The link starts with t.co. It’s saved as a link only, without their handle. Ask for the link to their profile instead.
  • Nothing happens. Ask them to turn their screen brightness up, and tilt your phone so their screen doesn’t reflect the lights. Or take a photo of the code and pick it with the gallery button in QR mode.
  • You already have them. As you type their name, met.cards suggests people you already have whose name matches what you typed, under Already in your connections? Select Add to on the right person, for example Add to Olena Koval, to add this X profile to them instead of saving someone new. See When you already have them.
